COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - People who support charter schools are gathering for a rally in Columbia.
On Wednesday, students, parents and teachers are scheduled to meet at the South Carolina Statehouse. Organizers say state Education Superintendent Mick Zais and legislators are expected to speak.
Charter schools are public schools that must meet all state and federal accountability laws but have greater flexibility, and more than 22,000 students attend a charter school in South Carolina.
This is the fifth year in a row charter school supporters say they have gathered for such a rally.
