DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) - At the end of a manhunt in the Pee Dee area, three people have been taken into custody in connection to the March 16 killing of Jamal Gainey.
Cheraw Police Chief Keith Thomas confirms that La-Porche Burns, Zakariya Hughes and Jayvis "Ruga" James Jackson were arrested on murder charges.
Just before 9 p.m. Tuesday, authorities tried to locate Jackson at his mother's house before they learned he was at a club. Jackson fled the club when police arrived and a manhunt began.
The State Law Enforcement Division, Darlington County Sheriff's Office, Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office and the Cheraw Police Department were searching for the 20-year-old murder suspect with the assistance of bloodhounds and a SLED helicopter.
Jackson was found near the ball field in the Centerville area of Darlington County by a bloodhound unit.
Zakariya Hughes was found hiding out in a friend's mobile home in Dovesville in Darlington County. La-Porche Burns was at her home at the time of her arrest.
Cheraw Police are currently looking for a fourth person of interest for questioning in this case. Chief Thomas assures there is no danger to the public at this time.
