FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – A nurse practitioner is Florence is facing three drug-related charges for allegedly issuing prescriptions for controlled substances without authorization or justification.
Tara Leigh Dempster, 34, was booked into Florence County Detention Center Monday on three charges of manufacture or possession of schedule IV drugs with intent to distribute, first offense, according to jail records.
The arrest warrants state that between February 1, 2013 and July 7, 2013, Dempster unlawfully issued prescriptions to several patients, including her brother, for alprazolam, the generic form of the drug Xanax, and zolpidem, the generic form the Ambien, and unlawfully distributed quantities of each.
The warrants also state that Dempster failed to maintain, and omitted, information from the medical charts for several patients.
Dempster was released from the Florence County Detention Center at noon on Tuesday.
