Woman charged with DUI in fatal Dillon Co. crash

DILLON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A 66-year-old Dillon County woman was killed when the vehicle she was a passenger in drove off the road and overturned, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Ore Lee Carmichael was killed in the crash on Joann Branch Road in Dillon County on Sunday, March 23, confirmed Dillon County Coroner Donnie Grimsley.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a car driven by 31-year-old Samantha Carmichael was heading west around 7:30 p.m. when it drove off the left side of the road and overturned. Samantha Carmichael was taken to a nearby hospital, and her passenger Ore Lee Carmichael was killed.

Neither were wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, SCHP confirmed. Samantha Carmichael has been booked into the Dillon County Detention Center on DUI charges.
