Road work causes detours and lane closures in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Drivers can expect more lane closures and detours as road construction continues in Myrtle Beach this week, according to City Spokesperson Mark Kruea.

Lane closures continue on Kings Highway, between Eighth Avenue North and Third Avenue South. Road work includes new sidewalks, curb-and-gutter medians, lighting, crosswalks and new pavements, according to a press release issued by the city of Myrtle Beach.

Drivers can expect a detour on U.S. Highway 17 at the southern end of Restaurant Row as part of the sewer force main project.  Kruea says the southbound U.S. Highway 17 ramp will be closed, with traffic detoured onto Kings Highway and Grand Dunes Boulevard, before returning to U.S. Highway 17.

According to Kruea, the work will begin Sunday, March 23 and should be complete by Tuesday, March 26.

In addition to detours, the intersection of Third Avenue South and Broadway Street will be restricted nightly, according to the press release.

This work will begin Sunday, March 23 at 7:00 p.m. and should be complete by Thursday, March 28.

According to the press release, the intersection will remain open throughout the week and traffic will return to normal each morning at 6:00 a.m.

The lanes will be restricted as construction crews install underground utility conduits, Kruea states in the press release.
