With tax deadline approaching, more opt for E-file

Posted: Updated:
According to numbers from www.IRS.gov, more than 80 percent of taxpayers are using IRS E-File. It's a trend that's taken root in the Lowcountry as well.

"The majority of people want to file and do it online because they want their refund faster," said Walter Simmons, manager of the Prosperity Center.

The Moncks Corner center offers free tax help, among other family services in partnership with The Benefit Bank of South Carolina.

"People are like the commercial, we want our money now."

With the April 15th tax deadline approaching, Simmons said there is free help available for taxpayers who don't want to tackle it alone.

"Tax forms and general terminology is very confusing," he added.

"The most common mistake is people not bringing the right documentation."

Much like the Moncks Corner help center, similar centers are available at various Palmetto Goodwill stores along with the Trident United Way.

To qualify for free tax help under the Benefit Bank, a single income cannot exceed $65,000 or $95,000 for a household.
