Classic car show bringing thousands to Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Car enthusiasts, get ready for the Run to the Sun Car Show.

The Run to the Sun Car Show is a major attraction that brings in thousands of visitors from across the US. And the best part for you, this family-friendly event is absolutely free!

If you drive down Oak Street, the classic cars and trucks are bound to make your head turn. It's year 26 for the Run to the Sun Car Show, an event that in it's first year only had 84 cars.

This year, you can expect to see roughly 3,500 vehicles take over the lot of the old Myrtle Square Mall making it one of the largest independent car and truck shows on the east coast.

The Pee Dee Street Rodders host the event each year and they say the interest keeps growing. In fact folks from as far as Canada are coming to show off their rides or at least just drool over others.

David Rodgers with the Pee Dee Street Rodders said, "Over a period of three days, we have around a 100,000 spectators here, so all those people are coming here, eating at the restaurants and spending the night at the motels. Myrtle Beach has been really good for us and I think its good for Myrtle Beach also."

Money raised this weekend will be donated to charity. Organizers added that they've donated a total of $1.3 million and this year they expect to raise well over $100,000 to benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Children's Miracle Network.
