NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A caregiver was arrested by Horry County Police Tuesday and accused of writing a $700 check to herself from an elderly woman's checkbook.

Jamie Alex Willard, a 39-year-old nursing assistant at a senior care home in Little River, was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with exploitation of a vulnerable adult.

After the 78-year-old victim passed away on January 8, 2014, the victim's daughter discovered a $700 check written on the day the victim was in the Intensive Care Unit. The daughter confronted Willard about the check; she did not respond, and the daughter was unable to make contact with her again.

The daughter then discovered 22 more checks that were questionable, totaling over $3,000.

Horry County Police investigated, and arrested Willard on Tuesday. She was released on bond the same day.
