Columbia City Council unanimously approves support for Emma's Law

Posted: Updated:

Columbia City Council unanimously approved a resolution supporting stricter drunk driving law in our state.

The family of 6-year-old Emma Longstreet talked to council members Tuesday night to seek their support for Emma's Law.

Emma was killed two years ago when a drunk driver hit the family while on their way to church.

Emma's Law would make it mandatory for first-time DUI offenders with a blood alcohol content of greater than .12, and repeat offenders, to have an ignition interlock installed in their car.

Columbia Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins stood with the Longstreet family. His great-nephew Josiah died last week after being hit by a suspected drunk driver.
