SCHP: Head-on collision in Sumter Friday kills 2 people

SUMTER COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Two people have died as a result of a head-on collision on US-15 in Sumter County Friday evening, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Hanna Wimberly.

A Dodge Charger driven by 38-year-old James Wilson of Florence failed to yield on a left turn on to Whites Mill Road, Wimberly said, and hit a Toyota Camry driven by 30-year-old Lashunda Allen of Darlington head-on. The passenger in the Dodge Charger was killed, and a juvenile in the back of the car was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries.

All four people in the Camry, the driver, passenger, and two other juveniles were taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

The Sumter County Coroner did confirm that a juvenile passed away Monday as a result of this accident.

All occupants of both vehicles were wearing seatbelts, Wimberly said. Wilson has been charged with failure to yield right of way.
