Coroner identifies man killed in early morning fire in Hartsville

HARTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) – One person has died in a fire at an apartment building in Hartsville early Monday morning, confirmed Darlington County Coroner J Todd Hardee.

Thomas C. Williams, 71, of Hartsville, was identified as the man who died in the fire by Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene on Monday.

The Hartsville Fire Department responded to the structure fire in the 300 block of South Eighth Street shortly after receiving the call at about 2:47 a.m. Crews arrived to find a fully-involved apartment structure behind the house at the front of the property, according to Hartsville Fire spokesman Russell Cox. The fire was controlled by about 3:23 a.m.

The HFD responded with two fire engines, one rescue truck and 15 firefighters. Assistance was provided by the Hartsville Police Department, Darlington County EMS, Darlington County Coroner's Office and SLED.

 

The exact cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is being investigated by the Hartsville City Fire Dept.
