FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The death of an incarcerated 24-year-old inmate at the Florence County Jail is being investigated, according to county coroner Keith von Lutcken.

Tavar O. Peoples, from the Effingham area, was discovered in his cell Sunday morning by Correctional Officers shortly after 6:00 a.m., Von Lutcken stated.

Peoples was rushed to an area hospital by EMS where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning at Medical University of South Carolina, and the incident is under investigation by the Florence County Coroner's Office and Sheriff's Office.

Peoples was booked into the Florence County Jail on February 25 on charges of breach of peace. A family court bench warrant was served against him, in additional to two warrants for failure to appear, according to Florence County Jail records.
