The Grand Strand does not have an interstate. The Grand Strand's railroad has been inactive for the past few years. What the Grand Strand does have is access to the water version of an interstate and railroad, the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean.
As I have shared before, I serve on the Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation board of directors and have the opportunity to see and hear how the group is working to better our region. Fred Richardson, MBREDC chairman and CEO of Grand Strand Water and Sewer, has done an admirable job leading the effort to upgrade and renovate the Bucksport Marina. He and his company are good stewards of the environment and for the community.
The Bucksport Marine Industrial Park will not negatively impact the environment or the Bucksport community. In fact, it will be an economic boom for an underserved area of Horry County.
The Grand Strand has a unique feature that allows us to recruit businesses and jobs in the marine sector. DHEC should approve the permit to build the marine industrial park.
