CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – A 63-year-old Conway man was sentenced to 12 years in prison after being found guilty of the charge of lewd act on a minor, a charge stemming from incidents in 2010 and 2011 involving a 10-year-old girl.

A jury found Ronald Lee Legg guilty of the charge after a three-day trial that ended Wednesday, according to a news release from the Solicitor's Office. The judge sentenced Legg to 12 years in prison; he will also be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and will be monitored by a GPS monitoring device for several years after his release.

Between June 2010 and June 2011 in Conway, Legg, the victim's neighbor, would watch her while her parents were at work, the release states.

"While taking care of the child he improperly touched her on several occasions," officials stated in the news release. The child disclosed the touching to her parents in 2011, and Horry County detectives obtained "an ample amount of evidence" to charge Legg.

The trial was originally scheduled for 2012, but due to several conflicts with Legg's defense attorneys, the trial was delayed.
