GARDEN CITY, SC (WMBF) - The Pier at Garden City is getting a facelift and making repairs this spring.

The following was posted on the pier's Facebook fan page:

Putting the materials and the crane up on The Pier! 80 ton crane picking and placing a 28 ton carry deck crane along with the Pilings that weigh up 3000 lbs each and a couple bundles of deck boards, take a lots of people to equal all that weight in a hundred ft!!!! We have battled some setbacks already and in crane issues and the rain has not stopped but we are up and ready to start the repairs as long as the wind and rain will give us a lil break!!"

The project manager says it's a safety measure they do every couple of years. "We had some issues with marine borers that have gotten into the pylons, which have eaten them up. It's a maintenance per say safety issue that we have to go through," GT Grubb said.

Work should be completed in two to four weeks. Check out the The Pier At Garden City on Facebook to see more photos of the work they're doing now.
