Moore students win the State Robotics Competition

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The John W. Moore "RoboLions" Robotics Team won first place for "Project" at the State Championship South Carolina First Lego League, for its project to increasing public awareness of Wireless Emergency Alerts.

The team contacted Apple and cell phone companies to suggest improvements in Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) and presented their findings to a panel of judges.

Coaches for the team are Jeff Murrie, Kay McSwain and Robby Crowley, along with Mentors Tara Small and Suzette Watson. Robert Gottlieb of the University of South Carolina served as an academic advisor, and General Electric was the corporate sponsor.

Team Members are fifth graders Sophie Watson, Payton Knight, Gretchen Belinski, Dylan Abbott, Reagan Jackson, also sixth graders Sarah Beth Small, Patrick Wang, Hannah Collins, and Madison Korel.
