According to Red Cross statistics, each year about 4 million people in the United States need blood. The current need is acute because officials say wintry weather in January and February has sharply reduced the blood supply for the area. Donors also have an extra incentive to give. Each donor's name will be entered into a Southeastern regional drawing for a $1,500 gift card.
In addition to having a valid ID, blood donors must be at least 17 years old, must be healthy, and must weigh a minimum of 110 pounds.
