FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - Florence Police say they have arrested a man at a motel, located in Florence. He was wanted in the state of Maryland for a possible child abduction.

That motel is on South Irby Street at the intersection with West Palmetto Street.

Timothy Virts was taken into custody at the motel Friday night, according to Florence Police Major Carlos Raines and his daughter, 11-year-old Caitlyn Virts, was found safe.

WBAL, the NBC affiliate in Baltimore, Maryland, reports a nationwide AMBER Alert was issued for Caitlyn Virts after her mother, 36-year-old Bobbie Jo Cortez, was found dead in their Dundalk, Maryland home on Thursday, March 6.

An arrest warrant was issued for the girl's father - identified in the Amber Alert as Timothy Virts - in connection to the mom's death and the girl's disappearance, according to WBAL. Cortez's death is being investigated as a homicide.

When he is extradited back to Maryland, Virts is expected to be charged with first degree murder. According to the Associated Press, Caitlyn Virts returned to Maryland Saturday where she is in the care of social services, and appears to be physically unharmed.
