MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Soon drivers on 17 Bypass across from Broadway at the Beach will get a look at how spectacular the Hollywood Wax Museum is going to be.
Visitors to the museum will take a tour through Hollywood, and view many of its stars past and present. Representatives of the museum say soon, the building that was previously the Nascar Grille, will be unrecognizable.
Because of bad weather, the construction has been halted but crews are beginning to work on transforming the outside. It will be a spectacle – with King Kong scaling a skyscraper that will sit by the Empire State Building.
It's not just the outside being transformed – construction crews are knocking down walls, even adding elevators and a third floor to house the replicas.
The year-round attraction is expected to open this summer. The museum adds to what people love about Myrtle Beach.
"We're a fun beach destination," says City of Myrtle Beach spokesman Mark Kruea. "You look around, we've got an upside down building, Wonder Works, we've got pyramids, and globes, and the Ripley's façade there on the Boulevard is cracked like it's falling down from an earthquake. So, having the wax museum really compliments some of the other fun activities that we have here."
Locals will get a 50 percent off discount, year-round with a local identification card.
