HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The Horry County Sheriff's office announced on July 30, 2014 that Desmond Chestnut has been arrested and bonded out, and is no longer wanted.

Chestnut was arrested for failure to appear on a first degree burglary charge. According to the Horry County police report, on May 13, 2013 Chestnut came in through a window of the victim's home in Little River, put a handgun to another victims's head and demanded to know where his drugs were. The report also says the suspect warned the victims that harm would be coming their way.

According to NeighborhoodScout.com, one in six people in Horry County will become a victim of a violent or property crime. The Horry County 48 hour crime map gives a glimpse of what's going on in the county.

In a two day time period, there were more than two dozen robberies from Little River to Murrells Inlet to Galivants Ferry.

The sheriff's office says with warmer weather on the way, people can get complacent about locking their doors and making their belongings less attractive to thieves.

"We have a very transit area here, a lot of folks that come and go and we can't become complacent in our every day lives. We have to remember to lock our doors and take that iPad off the front seat of our car," says Sergeant Jeff Benton, spokesman for the Horry County Sheriff's Office.

Benton also says be mindful of what you post on Facebook about leaving for vacation.
