Teens across North America dancing for research

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Dance-a-thon 2014 is coming! The Myrtle Beach Civitan Club and the South Carolina District of Civitan International are hosting the event this Saturday, March 8 from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. at Karma Ultimate Teen Nightlife.

Approximately 70 high school students of the Junior Civitan International will be dancing for 12 straight hours to raise money to support the Civitan International Research Center. Participants have each raised at least $100, with some raising several thousand dollars. So far, they have raised nearly $40,000 for this great cause. Funds will go to the Civitan International Research Center, a world-class medical research facility which researches illnesses such as autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome,epilepsy and more.

The UAB Civitan International Research Center has been helping people challenged by developmental disabilities for 50 years. The Center conducts research on the development of the central nervous system, with special emphasis on human development and developmental disabilities.
