MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - An inmate at the Myrtle Beach Jail is suspected of arson after police found smoke coming from his cell.
According to the police report, two people noticed the smell of smoke at the Myrtle Beach Jail around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4.
Officers quickly learned the smell was coming from a jail cell housing one man. The man was moved to a different cell, and officers noted that an outlet near the top of the wall had been tampered with.
"The front cover had been removed and was lying on the cell floor along with the screws that held it on. There was also wires being exposed from the outlet that appeared to be damaged and black burn marks around the outlet and ceiling," the police report stated.
Police also found a lighter that had been broken into several pieces and paper with burn marks.
