LONGS, SC (WMBF) - Police have charged a man with murder in connection to the shooting at a home on Star Bluff Road on Monday, March 3.
The fatal shooting happened at around 7 p.m. and cost 22-year-old Jamey Desean Lewis from Longs his life.
"Due to the suspect having several aliases, Major Crimes Detectives are currently working on positively identifying the suspect," Horry County Police officials stated in a Facebook update Wednesday morning. "Charges will be filed upon positive identification."
Tyrone Ford, 44, was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center and charged with murder, burglary, filing a false police report with a felony violation, sale or delivery of a pistol by certain persons unlawful, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
People who live and work in the area say they heard the shots.
"I heard two shots, real quick, one-two. Then in just a few seconds, I heard about ten or twelve rounds go off," says Frank Vereen of Vereens Pro Hardware and Turf Products.
Vereens Pro Hardware is around the corner from Star Bluff Road. Vereen says at first he did not think much of it, because many people have guns in the area. He assumed the shooting was recreational. However, two things made him question the shots he heard. The fact that it happened after dark and the way the shots were fired. He said it sounded as if the gun was automatic, and that's unusual for the area.
Neighbors did not want to be interviewed on camera for fear of any retaliation from the crime. They did say that they often hear gun shots and hear loud music. They also said that people race up and down the street because it is a straight shot dead end road and they notice people drive by slowly multiple times a day.
The Horry County Police Department urges you to call 915-TIPS if you know anything about what happened on Star Bluff Road.
