Habitat for Humanity hosts their 2nd Annual Bed Race

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Habitat for Humanity of Horry County announces their 2nd Annual Bed Race to raise funds to build affordable homes in the area. The bed race will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday April 12 at the Hard Rock Cafe in Myrtle Beach.

At the event, 5 person teams consisting of 4 people pushing 1 rider on a bed with wheels about a 1/8th of a mile. The teams will each have 2 heats, with the fastest teams advancing. The teams are asked to build their race bed prior to race day. There is an opportunity to pay for a rental bed for $50. Teams are encouraged to create a theme for their team and bed. Entry fee for the team of 5 is $125 and all teams are asked to minimally raise an additional $250 for Habitat. Prizes will be awarded to the top 2 teams, best theme and to the team that raised the most money. Proceeds from the race will benefit Habitat for Humanity of Horry County and their efforts to eliminate poverty housing and provide simple, decent affordable housing built in partnership with homeowners, volunteers and sponsors.
