2 teens die in crash with log truck in Marlboro Co.

MARLBORO COUNTY,SC (WMBF) - Two teens have died in a crash that involved a log truck and a pickup truck in Marlboro County Tuesday afternoon.

Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown identified the victims as 16-year-old Allison English and 16-year-old Jeremiah Adams, both Marlboro County residents.

"Sixteen-year-old, like I said they're in the prime of their lives. Both of them were in high school together and stuff, like I said they could have been friends all their lives. You know I hate that it happen like that," said Steve Strickland.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, that crash occurred near the intersection of Highway 79 and Highway 38 at around 1:25 p.m. The log truck was traveling south on Highway 79, and the pickup truck was traveling north.

Corporal Sonny Collins with the SCHP said it appears the pickup crossed the center line, striking the log truck head-on. The two occupants of the pickup truck were killed. Adams, the driver, was not wearing a seat belt, officials said. English was wearing a seatbelt.

The log truck driver was not injured as a result of the crash. No charges will be filed against the driver, since the pick-up crossed the center line, Cpl. Collins said.

"I know this community is in shock. I mean, it's a shock to anybody; it's two teenagers," said Strickland.

Both teens went to Marlboro County High School. A school spokesperson said grief counselors are available for any students who need their services. We weren't able to speak to anyone from the district on camera, but did receive this statement.

"We, the Marlboro County School District, are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of two of our students: Allison English and Jeremiah Dean Adams. Our children are our most precious commodity and it is a grave travesty to lose one. We extend to the family and friends our most heartfelt sympathy. Grief counseling is currently being offered to our students and staff by our district's counselors and psychologists. Please join us with your thoughts as we work together to maintain heartfelt peace in our school community."
