CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) - The Carolina Beach Town Council passed a resolution against seismic testing in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of the area's beaches.

According to Carolina Beach Mayor Dan Wilcox, the resolution was unanimously approved Friday evening.

Seismic testing involves using air guns to shoot bursts of air into the ocean floor. Wilcox said he and the other council members fear for the damage this could cause the environment.

The resolution does show the town's sentiment towards the testing, but will not completely prevent a company from bringing the operation to the area.

The debate on seismic testing has been a hot topic in Kure Beach this year.
