Report: Argument over spilled drink leads to kidnapping charges

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Myrtle Beach Police applied for warrants against a 50-year-old Pelzer man for kidnapping and criminal domestic violence charges after an argument with his wife at a Myrtle Beach hotel turned violent, according to a Myrtle Beach Police report.

Police responded to the Windsurfer Hotel on Ocean Boulevard at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, and the victim, a 47-year-old woman, told police that she had been arguing with her husband of three years because he spilled his drink on her cell phone.

According to the police report, soon after the argument began, the 50-year-old husband grabbed the woman by her throat and held her down on the bed. He would not let her leave, and pulled her away from the room's door until she started screaming. The victim left the room and was assessed by Emergency Medical Services.

Officers and the victim went back to the room and saw the husband had left the scene, the police report states. The victim said the bags she left by her car were missing. Officers found the bags under a nearby shrub; it is believed the husband hid the bags in an attempt to keep his wife from leaving.

Officers applied for warrants in reference to criminal domestic violence and kidnapping. The victim drove away from the scene alone.
