CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - The 15th Judicial Circuit Drug Enforcement Unit investigated a potential mobile methamphetamine lab in the parking lot of Lowe's on Highway 501 in Conway Monday night; two suspects were arrested,
DEU units set up a surveillance operation and followed the vehicle to the Lowe's based on a tip they received, said Dean Bishop with DEU.
Officers saw two people go inside the hardware store and purchase ingredients to produce meth. Officers conducted a stop and interview in the parking lot, with a K-9 unit on scene, Bishop said. The K-9 got a positive alert from the vehicle, and that's where they found the "shake and bake" style meth lab.
Conway Police assisted in the investigation. Commander Bill Knowles said authorities requested help for the cleanup efforts - officers found active bottles in the car, and believed the men were buying more supplies in the store.
A WMBF News crew on the scene discovered two people were decontaminated and taken to J. Reuben Long Detention Center to face charges for the meth lab found in a car.
The men were identified as 21-year-old Anthony Pulver and 34-year-old Michael Maffeo.
Cleanup crews were called from Columbia to finish cleaning the scene.
