NASCAR SpeedPark seeks donations to promote the love of reading

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The NASCAR SpeedPark partners up with Freedom Readers, Inc., and the PARC Foundation, to launch a campaign, which invites guests to round up their in-park purchases to the nearest whole dollar. This campaign will begin on March 1 through the end of May; and a portion of the proceeds will be given in support of Freedom Readers.

Freedom Readers mission consists of providing one-to-one literacy tutoring and improving reading skills in low income communities, providing free books for home libraries, and inspiring high-energy learning environments. Freedom Readers connects people through comprehensive programs, that offers individuals, opportunities to improve career prospects, and academic performance, in order to alleviate poverty.

"PARC Foundation is proud to support Freedom Readers," said Bob Baldwin, Executive Director of PARC Foundation."Organizations like Freedom Readers fit closely with our mission of strengthening children and communities while positively impacting the local community.     A threat was discovered written on a bathroom wall at Conway High School, according to a post on the school’s Facebook page. The threat was “a derogatory statement about a teacher,” and was investigated by school officials and law enforcement.

    TIMMONSVILLE, SC (WMBF) – A death investigation is underway in Florence County after a woman’s body was found on the side of the road, according to Chief Deputy Glenn Kirby with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office. The woman’s body was found on U.S. 76 between Chaney Grove Road and Tolson Road in Timmonsville. The coroner is currently on scene and investigating along with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.
