BRATTONSVILLE, S.C. (AP) - The South Carolina Army National Guard's 178th Combat Engineer Battalion is getting a new commander.
A ceremony is scheduled for Saturday in Brattonsville to install Maj. Kevin Berry as the new commanding officer.
The battalion's headquarters is in Rock Hill. It oversees armories in Fort Mill, Chester, Lancaster and Wellford.
Berry takes over from Lt. Col. Corol Dobson, who was the unit commander during the yearlong deployment in Afghanistan, which concluded in May.
During the deployment, Berry served as the unit's executive officer. He is a civil engineer from Mount Pleasant who also deployed with 218th Brigade to Afghanistan for a year in 2007.
