MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - This week, WMBF News visited two restaurants on the Grand Strand. One spot you might grab breakfast, the other you may go to for dinner and drinks, Plantation Pancake House in Surfside and River City Cafe in Murrells Inlet.
David Melendez is a snowbird from Pennsylvania and says he can't come down without a visit to Plantation Pancake House. Some people choose from the selection of 42 omelettes, but for Melendez, it's all in the name.
"I'm either a french toast guy or a hot cake guy, either or, and both are very good here so that's why I'm here," he says.
The recently renovated restaurant reopened Tuesday and stays open seven days a week
"We closed down for about two months and we completely renovated the whole place. So what we try to do is instill that having a good clean restaurant is the way to go," says co-owner James Alston.
The restaurant scored of a 96 from the department of health, an "A" rating.
River City Cafe in Murrells Inlet got an "A" with a score of 88, but DHEC did find some concerns with one critical and five minor violations.
Inspectors note issues with cleanliness including a build up of grease inside the sink and dust on the outside of the ice machine. The cafe was also cited for food scoopers missing handles.
The restaurant manager did not want to comment and the corporate office has not returned our calls. This River City Cafe location can expect DHEC inspectors to return for a follow up.
