DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A Darlington County man has died as a result of hypothermia, according to the Darlington County Sheriff's Office and the Darlington County Coroner's Office.

Coroner Todd Hardee identified the man as 72-year-old John Griffith of Hartsville.

Calls to 911 around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday indicated there was a man lying on Leesburg Street in Hartsville near the baseball field. That's not far from where Mr. Griffith lived.

Griffith was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.

"It is believed that Griffith walked out of his house and later died from the cold weather," said Hardee. Sheriff Wayne Byrd said, "There is no indication of any foul play, but the investigation will continue"

If anyone has information about this case please call the Darlington County Sheriff's Office at 843.398.4501.
