Conway opening emergency shelter at 1 p.m. Thursday

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – The City of Conway is opening an emergency shelter at 1 p.m. on Thursday. Here is information on the shelter from Lt. Selena Small with the Conway Police Department:

The Recreation Center is located at 1515 Mill Pond Road. This shelter is opening for persons who are without electrical power in the Conway area and are in need of a shelter. Persons who stay at the shelter must bring their own supplies such as:

• Baby supplies

• Blankets or sleeping bags and pillows

• Entertainment such as games, books, electronic games, etc.

• Flashlights and extra batteries

• Clothing

• Identification

• Medicine

• Snacks

• Toiletries

GUNS, ALCOHOL, AND ANIMALS ARE NOT PERMITTED AT THE SHELTER.

    The school district is in the process of hiring around 250 teachers for next school year and is holding an information session about alternative certification Thursday, according to Spokesperson for Horry County School District, Lisa Bourcier. Recruitment started in January and the district has already started making job offers. According to Bourcier, leaders are hoping to complete the hiring process over the summer.

    A 32-year-old man was reportedly robbed at gunpoint of $1,984 and other belongings Monday afternoon by two men Monday afternoon. According to a Myrtle Beach Police Department incident report, police responded to a home in the 100 block of Cedar Street for a report of an armed robbery.
