GREENVILLE, S.C. (WYFF) —The parents of a 19-day-old baby were arrested after doctors found the newborn to be severely injured, according to Greenville police.

Anna Sophia Warren, 19, and Stephen Michael Simes, 20, are charged with abuse of a child with great bodily injury.   The arrest warrants said that Warren told police that she was holding her infant daughter when Simes fell on top of the baby on Jan. 22, causing her to get a black eye.  Simes told police the same story.

Johnathan Bragg, Greenville police public information officer, said, "There were severe injuries to the 19-day-old baby, to include broken bones."

The infant is in the state's custody.

Warren and Simes were being held in the Greenville County Detention Center.
