MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The Department of Health of Environmental Services dropped by restaurants in Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Pawleys Island and Conway this week – three received "A" ratings and one earned a "B" rating with one critical violation, according to reports obtained by WMBF News.
A DHEC inspector found three violations at Dick's Last Resort on South Kings Highway: the table was dirty under the char grill and slicer, a small hood was coming uncaulked from the wall, and the hot water was less than the required 140 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the inspection report.
Although the restaurant advertises itself as "The Shame O' Barefoot Landing" on its website, with no other violations, it scored a 97 out of 100 possible points, earning it an "A" rating from DHEC.
Hanser House on Ocean Highway in Pawleys Island also earned a high rating from inspectors: 98 out of 100. The family-owned restaurant lost points because of unpainted or unsealed wooden surfaces, rusting wire shelves, and unlabeled bottles of food product, according to the DHEC report.
Mulan Japanese Cuisine and Sushi Bar on Oak Forest Lane in Myrtle Beach racked up several violations during a routine inspection on Wednesday, according to the DHEC report. Violations listed in the report include: food stored uncovered, dirty food contact surfaces of kitchenware, hand sink without paper towels, failure to store soiled towels in sanitizer, bulk containers and shelves dirty, cutting board stores behind sink faucet, floors throughout facility dirty, and walls in kitchen dirty. Mulan Japanese earned an "A" rating with 88 out of 100 possible points.
Jade Hibachi received a "B" rating after an inspection by DHEC this week with one critical risk factor and several other violations. The Conway restaurant lost five points for improper sanitizing of dishes. The inspector also noted the following violation in the report: onions stored on floor in walk-in cooler, employee observed washing hands in 3-compartment sink, utensils in poor repair, scoop not provided at handsink, sides of cookline equipment not clean, the hood unit and shelving were not properly sealed, the floors and the cookline and coolers were not clean, the wall by the handsink was dirty, and the hood filters were not clean. The restaurant on Graduate Road earned 81 of 100 possible points.
