MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The Department of Health of Environmental
Services dropped by restaurants in Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Pawleys
Island and Conway this week – three received "A" ratings and one earned a "B"
rating with one critical violation, according to reports obtained by WMBF News.
A DHEC inspector found three violations at Dick's Last Resort on
South Kings Highway: the table was dirty under the char grill and slicer, a
small hood was coming uncaulked from the wall, and the hot water was less than
the required 140 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the inspection report.
Although the restaurant advertises itself as "The Shame O' Barefoot
Landing" on its website, with no other violations, it scored a 97 out of 100
possible points, earning it an "A" rating from DHEC.
Hanser House on Ocean Highway in Pawleys Island also earned a high
rating from inspectors: 98 out of 100. The family-owned restaurant lost points
because of unpainted or unsealed wooden surfaces, rusting wire shelves, and unlabeled
bottles of food product, according to the DHEC report.
Mulan Japanese Cuisine and Sushi Bar on Oak Forest Lane in Myrtle
Beach racked up several violations during a routine inspection on Wednesday,
according to the DHEC report. Violations listed in the report include: food
stored uncovered, dirty food contact surfaces of kitchenware, hand sink without
paper towels, failure to store soiled towels in sanitizer, bulk containers and
shelves dirty, cutting board stores behind sink faucet, floors throughout
facility dirty, and walls in kitchen dirty. Mulan Japanese earned an "A" rating
with 88 out of 100 possible points.
Jade Hibachi received a "B" rating after an inspection by DHEC
this week with one critical risk factor and several other violations. The
Conway restaurant lost five points for improper sanitizing of dishes. The
inspector also noted the following violation in the report: onions stored on
floor in walk-in cooler, employee observed washing hands in 3-compartment sink,
utensils in poor repair, scoop not provided at handsink, sides of cookline
equipment not clean, the hood unit and shelving were not properly sealed, the
floors and the cookline and coolers were not clean, the wall by the handsink
was dirty, and the hood filters were not clean. The restaurant on Graduate Road
earned 81 of 100 possible points.
