COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Driving monster trucks is a dream come true for Mike Miller.

"I've loved them since I was a little kid," he said. "I've...just kind of grown up around them and knew that was what I always wanted to do."

Miller said he was one of those kids in the stands watching monster trucks, just like the kids who will be at Colonial Life Arena  this weekend.  He drives the Raminator for Hall Brothers Racing.

"I just kept pursuing the dream and finally got the opportunity to come work for them as a mechanic, worked my way up in the seat and just living the dream now."

Miller says you have to learn how to fix the 5-ton behemoths before you can drive them. They ride on 66-inch agriculture tires that can have 200 pounds of rubber scraped off.  The engine runs on alcohol fuel. He says surprisingly, the vehicles are simple to work on.

"The nice thing about monster trucks is that everything's pretty accessible to work on, but everything's big and heavy, too," Miller said. "They make a whole lot of power and they're a whole lot of fun to play with."

So what's the object of monster truck competition?

"Go out there and crush whatever's in the way!" said Miller.

Monster Jam is Friday and Saturday at Colonial Life Arena.  Races are at 7:30 pm Friday and Saturday and 2 pm Saturday.  Fans are invited to Party in the Pits from 11 am - 1 pm Saturday.
