LATTA, S.C. (WMBF) - In case you haven't been on a football field in the Pee Dee lately, or read about some of South Carolina's top recruits, it's still hard to miss Donnell Stanley. The 6'4", 346 pound offensive lineman was getting looks from division one colleges after his freshman year.
"I didn't know about an offer or anything my freshman year," Stanley explained. "So after going through the whole (recruiting) process, I learned a lot."
Ultimately, he decided to head to Columbia, giving the Gamecocks the top offensive lineman recruit in the entire state, and thanks to a Pee Dee contingency in Columbia, he is already feeling comfortable about getting adjusted.
"I've been seeing (Lake City alum) Shon Carson, and all them, then the recruiting class with Joe Blue (Dillon H.S.) and all the other guys," Stanley said. "We took our official visit not too long ago, so I got to know everybody."
While his future is with the Gamecocks, Stanley is continuously focused on a team mindset. And that includes his current participation with the basketball team, and he still plans to take the field for the the defending Lower State champion Vikings in baseball soon too.
"One thing I don't have is a state championship ring and I'm still scrapping for it, and thinking I can get two this year," said Stanley. "We got the athleticism for it and everything and that's what we're going for right now."
