Free Tax Preparation program offered in Horry County

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The IRS Volunteer Tax Assistance (VITA) and the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program is now offering free tax preparations in Horry County.

In order to qualify, you have to make $52,000 or less. Volunteers are there to inform taxpayers of special tax credits that they may qualify for, such as Credit for the Elderly and Disabled, and Earned Income Tax Credit. And they will also file those forms electronically.

The items you need to bring are:

-Proof of identification (a picture ID)

-Social Security Cards for you, your spouse, and dependents

-A Social Security Number verification letter; or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) assignment letter

-Birth dates for you, your spouse, and dependents

-Wage and earning statements: Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, 1099-Misc from all employers

-Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099)

-A copy of last year's federal and state returns, if available 

-Bank account routing numbers and account numbers for direct deposit (a blank check will do) 

-Total paid for daycare provider and daycare provider's tax identifying number

-For a married-filing-joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms

Conway Library: 801 Main St., Conway - Saturdays: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Chapin Memorial Library: 400 14th Ave. NMB- Wednesdays: 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Surfside Beach Library: 410 Surfside Drive, Surfside Beach : Tuesdays 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Coastal Carolina University: located in the E. Craig Wall Building, Room 204 – Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and February 18th – April 3rd, except for the week of March 10th because of Spring Break.
