FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – A woman who was babysitting two two-year-olds and a six-year-old Thursday was arrested after leaving the kids inside an unlocked car while shopping, according to Major Carlos Raines with the Florence Police Department.

Edelmira Jackson, 43, went shopping at a store on David McLeod Boulevard while babysitting the three children, Maj. Raines said. Investigators say she left the kids inside an unlocked car with the keys for 40 minutes.

A passerby noticed the children and contacted police. Investigators said Jackson lost track of time while shopping.

The temperature ranged from about 34 to 39 degrees Fahrenheit in Florence on Thursday afternoon, according to data from the National Weather Service.

Jackson was charged with three counts of unlawful neglect of a child. She was booked into the Florence County Detention Center Friday morning after turning herself in, Maj. Raines said.
