Fighter jets flying over Florence Saturday as part of exercise

Posted: Updated:

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – Florence residents may see fighter jets in the skies Saturday as part of a routine exercise being conducted by the South Carolina Air National Guard.

As part of the exercise, a single-engine aircraft from the South Carolina Civil Air Patrol will be escorted by jets from SCANG's 169th Fighter Wing between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 1.

"Such exercises are carefully planned and closely controlled to ensure the rapid response capability associated with the SCANG's Aerospace Control Alert mission," SCANG officials stated in a news release. "The McEntire unit is a critical component of the strategic force that is poised 24/7 to respond to airborne threats over the United States."
