Restaurant on Highway 17 destroyed in early-morning fire

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Horry County Fire Rescue responded to a fully-involved, three-alarm structure fire at the New China Buffet on North Kings Highway around 2:30 a.m. Friday.

New China Buffet is located on 9601 North Kings Highway, between Giant Crab Seafood Restaurant and Chuck's Steak House.

Fire crews from North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, Calabash and Conway responded to assist HCFR. Three water tanks were used to try to extinguish the flames. They were able to contain the fire so that it did not spread to either the Giant Crab Seafood Restaurant or Chuck's Steak House.

When fire crews arrived, the New China Buffet was 100 percent involved. Fire crews have not been able to get into the building yet, which is a total loss, but they do confirm there were no injuries, and no one was inside.

A total of 18 fire trucks and 65 firefighters responded to the fire, with crews coming from as far away as Calabash, North Carolina, sources at the scene said.

One southbound lane Highway 17 reopened at about 8 a.m. after being shut down for several hours.
