Suspect in at least 3 armed robberies arrested in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A 43-year-old man who is a suspect in at least three armed robberies in the Grand Strand was arrested Wednesday in Georgetown County.

Richard Cowart, from Fort Wayne, Indiana, was booked into the Myrtle Beach Jail on armed robbery charges, after being transported Thursday from the Georgetown County Detention Center.

At about 2 p.m. Wednesday, troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol performed a traffic stop on Cowart's truck in Georgetown city limits, according to captain David Knipes with Myrtle Beach Police. The troopers recognized Cowart's truck from a police bulletin.

He was taken into custody without incident and taken to Georgetown County Detention Center, where is awaits transportation to Horry County for the armed robbery charges in Myrtle Beach and Conway.

Cowart was wanted in connection with the armed robbery of a CVS Pharmacy, a Rite-Aid Pharmacy, and a BB&T Bank branch in Conway.
