HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The National Weather Service in Wilmington is reporting the winter storm is affecting roads in the Horry County area.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation reports that all roads in Horry County are at least partially covered in snow and/or ice, as well as roads in Darlington, Marion, Williamsburg, and Marlboro counties . SCDOT is also reporting significant icing on road surfaces in Dillon County. Roads in Florence County are covered with snow and patches of ice. Georgetown County roads also have ice patches.

SCDOT also reports that crews are steadily busy out treating the roads. They started laying down salt 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, and haven't stopped. They probably will continue throughout the night Wednesday. They will be tending to primary roads first which are: 501, 701, 31, and 22 before they can get to secondary roads.

The Horry County Sheriff's Office confirms that the roads are very icy, and recommends that residents avoid driving if possible.

Jenna DeAngelis in the WMBF Traffic Tracker says it is not safe to drive - lanes are hard to see, and drivers will have to follow tracks left by other cars. She recommends you stay off the road today.

Horry County Emergency Management reported to NWS that in addition to car crashes, there is ice on some of the Highway 501 bridges, and they are seeing ice at their Emergency Operations Center in Conway.

North Myrtle Beach reports that as of 6:30 a.m., there have not been any wrecks, fires or power outages. The bridges are open, but the roadways are extremely hazardous.

A non-injury crash has been reported on US-501 heading north from near Highway 22 at about 5:50 a.m. Another crash was reported on I-95 headed south in Dillon County near the rest stop.

According to the South Carolina Emergency Management Division, South Carolina Highway Patrol was responding to 73 motor vehicle accidents statewide early Wednesday morning.

At 10 p.m. Tuesday, the South Carolina Highway Patrol advised drivers about icy conditions in the following areas:

- US76 [FLORENCE COUNTY] x[PEE DEE RIVER BRIDGE]

- US52 [FLORENCE COUNTY] x[LNYCHES RIVER BRIDGE]

- US378 [FLORENCE COUNTY] x[PEE DEE BRIDGE] [KINGSBURG]

- WACC RIVER BRIDGE NB [GEORGETOWN COUNTY] x[(HIGH SPAN ACROSS FRM BRIDGE)]

- US301 [MARION COUNTY] x[PEE DEE RIVER]

- US76 EB AND WB [MARION COUNTY]

Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol were slowing traffic near the intersection of Highway 17 Bypass and Business in Murrells Inlet where utility trucks were spreading a salty solution. They have since cleared the area and traffic can flow normally.
