State of Emergency declared in several southeastern NC counties

Posted: Updated:

NORTH CAROLINA (WECT) - Several counties in southeastern North Carolina have declared a State of Emergency, starting Jan. 28 at noon. Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover and Pender Counties are among those included.

A pet-friendly shelter will open at West Brunswick High School Tuesday afternoon at 1:00.

Residents are encouraged to head to the shelter before conditions worsen. They are advised to stay off the roads and stay in place.

If power goes out, do NOT use grills or similar items inside your home. Make sure any heating elements, including fireplaces, have adequate ventilation.
