MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – One man died after a shooting on 37th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach Monday, and one suspect has been charged with murder and other offenses in connection with the incident.
Myrtle Beach Police responded to the scene of a shooting on 37th Avenue North Monday at about 4:45 p.m.
When officers arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he died a short time later. The victim was later identified as 46-year-old Michael Jerome Rogers.
Officers located the suspected shooter on the scene; he was taken to the Myrtle Beach jail for questioning. He has been identified as 25-year-old Antwuan Levon Nelson. He surrendered to police without incident. Officers also recovered two rifles on scene.
Capt. Knipes says witnesses told police a physical altercation between both men lead to the shooting. According to the police report, a witness at the scene said the incident started in an apartment over drugs.
Nelson was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention center on Wednesday and charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and manufacturing/distribution of ice, crank or crack/cocaine, second offense.
