Columbia, S. C. (WMBF) - The statewide Red Flag Fire Alert has been lifted, according to the South Carolina Forestry Commission. Fire managers ended the alert due to signs of improving weather conditions.

Calmer winds and higher relative humidity values mean fire is less likely to spread. SCFC personnel responded to 51 fires statewide during the Red Flag Alert. No injuries have been reported.

Keep in mind, the Southeast is in the midst of wildfire season. Take caution and care with all forms of outdoor burning to prevent wildfires from starting.

According to SCFC, some local jurisdictions may have yet to lift a burning ban, so check with local fire officials before conducting any type of burn.

SC law requires anyone planning to conduct controlled burns or debris burns to notify the Commission in advance.
