MARION, NC (WMBF) – An inmate was captured at an apartment in Marion, North Carolina after escaping from the Buncombe Correctional Center in Asheville, North Carolina.
Anthony Riddle, 27, was captured by state corrections officers and McDowell County Sheriff's deputies at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning after walking away from the minimum-security state correctional facility in Asheville Tuesday night at about 9 p.m., according to a news release from the NC Department of Public Safety.
Riddle was serving two to four years for larceny and possession of a firearm by a felon, and was due for release in July 2015.
Riddle will now face charges for escape from prison and will be returned to the Mountain View Correctional Institution in Spruce Pine to resume his sentence, authorities stated. Charges are also expected against friends who allegedly helped Riddle escape.
