Warming shelters, cold weather delays

Warming shelters:

A warming station and shelter will be ready for occupancy after 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21 and remain open through 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 and the Mullins Fire Department. The shelter will be staffed by volunteers and the Mullins Fire Department. Anyone wishing to donate food, clothing, or blankets may call the Mullins Fire Department or City Hall.

Whosoever Community Church in Florence - located on East Palmetto Street at S. Ballard Street - opened at 5 p.m. Tuesday as a warming shelter. According to their Facebook page, they will keep the doors open from 5 p.m. to 9 a.m. each day this week for anyone needing a warm place to stay.

If you would like to pitch in, the church says they're running low on blankets. They also need snacks such as crackers, pop-tarts and fruit.

Salvation Army - 2210 Hoffmeyer Road - 662-4461 or 519-1463 (John Lane - Shelter Director):

The Salvation Army maintains a regular emergency night shelter for the Florence Community. They are available for emergency shelter from the cold temperatures expected this week. The shelter typically provides shelter from 5:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. Shelter staff will be out this evening (Wednesday, Jan. 22) providing coffee to the homeless. If you are looking for shelter this evening, they expect to return and open doors at 8:30 p.m.

The Second Baptist Church of Hartsville located at 212 W. Washington St. has opened it's fellowship hall Friday night for a homeless shelter.

School delays for Wednesday, Jan. 22 (may no longer be applicable):

Because of the threat of inclement weather, Scotland County Schools will be operating on a two-hour delay for students and staff on Wednesday, January 22.

The Public Schools of Robeson County are operating on a two-hour delay for staff on Wednesday, and students are not scheduled for class because its an optional teacher workday.

All after-school activities for the Public Schools of Robeson County are canceled for Tuesday afternoon due to potential inclement weather.

Columbus County Schools will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22 for students AND staff due to the expected cold temperatures.
