LAKE CITY, SC (WMBF) - Crews responded to a fire at the Nan Ya Plastics plant in Lake City Tuesday afternoon, confirmed an official with the South Lynches Fire Department.
Two floors in one of the plant's buildings had fire on them, and the fire was contained by about 1:30 p.m., confirmed Sam Brockington, Florence County Fire and Rescue Coordinator. The first call for the fire came in at about 12:20 p.m.
Lake City Fire, Howe Springs Fire, Olanta Fire, Windy Hill Fire, Hannah Salem Friendfield Fire, Williamsburg Fire and Johnsonville Fire departments also responded to assist, Florence County Emergency Management confirmed.
The department also confirmed that CSX and Amtrak train traffic was stopped because the railroad passes near the plant, but both say their routes were not affected.
There were no injuries to firefighters or employees, confirmed Battalion Chief Anthony Fox. "There was no structural damage to the involved building or to the manufacturing capabilities of Nan Ya Plastics."
The plant, located off of Highway 52 just south of Lake City, is the corporation's largest producer of polyester filament, fiber, and chip (resin), according to the Nan Ya Plastics website.
